Let’s not re-write the whole season. What’s done is done. Instead, let’s look at season 8’s biggest problems and find simple solutions that could have definitely been worked into the season we got. Feel free to join in in the comments.
Ep 2.
Add one scene where Tyrion adresses the fact that the Crypt is filled with dead bodies the NK could raise. Jon agrees but simply says there is no other option. He sends Ghost with Tyrion into the Crypt as a last defense. If the dead in the crypt start rising, it means Winterfell has fallen and they will have to run. There is a secret exit that Sansa knows about.
Ep. 3.
Greyworm dies. This way he doesn’t end up a dick and his death becomes part of the fuel for Dany‘s madness.
I’m sorry, but… Brienne dies. This would create a reason for Jaimie to go back to Cersei. After the BoW he feels lonely and has no more role to play. So he decides that maybe he can convince Cersei to surrender.
Beric dies without the Hound present. It’s just him and Arya, making his death more heroic and in the service of the Lord Of Light.
Melisandre helps Arya find her strength in her weakest moment. Reminding her of her training. Arya kills a commander of the NK. She surprises the NK, as a commander without blue eyes, and kills him. Completing Arya’s arc.
Ep. 4.
Jon does not tell Arya and Sansa about his true identity.
Yara gets a part in transporting Dany and what’s left of her army.
Tyrion tells Varys he has learned about Jon’s true identity while talking to Bran in Ep. 2
Dany is on a ship when Euron attacks. Not on Drogon’s back. The Dragons spot Euron’s fleet from miles away and start behaving strange. They even fly away but return as soon as Euron attacks Dany. Misandei dies in the attack. Rheagal gets wounded (but not killed) by one of Euron’s giant arrows. Euron’s fleet gets burned to a crisp by Drogon. Euron dies.
No scene in front of the gate of King’s Landing with the dragons in range of the scorpions. Since Missandei is already dead.
Ep. 5.
Varys sends a note to Sansa, letting her know about Jon’s true identity. This way Varys plays one final important role before Drogon dracarys his ass.
Jaimie isn’t captured. He finds Cersei himself.
No Dothraki! They’re dead! Accept it.
No Euron! Yay!
Dany attacks King’s Landing with two dragons. One is wounded though. Rheagal gets hit and killed by a scorpion. Rheagal falls to it’s death in the middle of the city. Destroying houses and buildings. People are crying out to ring the bells.
Cersei doesn’t ring the bells.
Now Dany has a decision to make. She has nobody left but Drogon. Her Dragons aren’t as resilient as she thought, since a well placed shot could kill them (as she just saw). She can make one final move to kill Cersei. She can fly straight to the Red Keep and hope that the remaining scorpions miss her. Or…
She could burn down the whole fucking city. Causing chaos and having every last soldier on the run, leaving the Red Keep unguarded.
She chooses option two.
It’s no longer in Cersei’s hands. The bells now ring. But it’s too late. Dany has snapped and she’s not stopping until all of King’s Landing is at sea level.
Ep. 6
With no Greyworm, Jon doesn’t become a prisoner after killing Dany. Instead he, Tyrion, Arya, Davos and Yara call the meeting of the great council to decide who will be king. Thanks to Varys, everyone knows about Jon’s true identity, so they all vote for him. The end.
No, but for real. Jon could give some speech about being done with politics and war. He will go North to be with Tormund and Ghost. He votes Bran will be King in his place. This surprises even Bran, showing he doesn’t know absolutely everything and didn’t just let everything happen. Bada bing bada boom. The end.
